Twitter introduces Stories-like “Fleets” feature for Indian users

American microblogging and social networking platform, Twitter, has reportedly announced the launch of its much-anticipated “Fleets” feature for its users in India. Using this feature, people will be able to share photos, tweets, and videos that will disappear from their profile after 24 hours.

Twitter has claimed that the testing of “Fleets” feature was initiated in Brazil and the social networking service continues to work on this new way of communication as some people feel unassertive to tweet because the posts on Twitter are permanent and show public engagement counts such as retweets and likes.

The “Fleets” feature has been announced on Twitter through a tweet by Kavyon Beykpour, the Product Lead of Twitter and Co-founder of Periscope. This feature has been newly introduced on Twitter. However, it is not a completely unknown concept as it shows a lot of resemblance to Instagram and Snapchat stories.

For the record, Beykpour has explained that “Fleets” shows many similarities with Instagram’s stories format so that people feel acquainted with this feature. Twitter has also introduced a few intentional differences in it to make it more focused on sharing and viewing people’s thoughts.

As per sources, Twitter had reportedly announced a gradual global roll out of this feature in the previous month and has been consistently working on feedbacks obtained worldwide.

The social networking service has further stated that “Fleets” show remarkable dissimilarity to Tweets as they are available only for 24 hours and don’t get likes, retweets, or public replies. “Fleets” don’t show up in people’s timelines either and can be only be viewed by tapping on their avatar.

People can react to “Fleets” only through Twitter’s Direct Messaging feature. Those who want to reply to a Fleet can click on it to send a Direct Message and continue their conversation through the message itself.
