Audi AG reportedly sold 81,894 fully electric vehicles in 2021, marking a 57.5% increase over the previous year’s figures. However, it delivered 16,80,512 vehicles in total, which was 0.7% less than the volumes recorded in 2020.
The firm had stated that it was on course to set a new sales record post delivering 9,81,681 automobiles in the first half of 2021. However, its stats were impacted by the ongoing worldwide semiconductor scarcity in the second half of the year, and as a result, deliveries fell by 34.2% in the fourth quarter compared to the same period in 2020.
According to Hildegard Wortmann, Member of the Board of Management for Sales and Marketing at Audi AG, the year 2021 was hard for the brand but the team turned it into a win with collective efforts.
The company will have a positive outlook for the future owing to its clear plans with Vorsprung 2030, which is its new corporate strategy for a sustainable future. Its initiative to make lasting changes by introducing zero-emission drive systems to support the environment is being rewarded in the form of increased demand for their electric vehicles.
The firm will carry this momentum into 2022 and continue to make progress with the changes. The fact that it has a high number of incoming orders also demonstrates that its portfolio is in sync with the current market trends, Wortmann added.
When it comes to electric vehicles, Audi's decision to launch the Audi e-Tron GT and Audi RS e-Tron GT at the start of the year in 2021 cleared the way for a high sales performance in the class.
It is worth mentioning that Audi's range of completely electric vehicles has more than doubled in the last year with the addition of these four new models. By 2025, Audi wants to have more than 20 fully electric vehicles in its lineup and wants to sell entirely electric vehicles by 2026.
