Ecom Express to generate 30,000 seasonal jobs to handle festive sales
Ecom Express, a leading end-to-end logistics solution provider, has reportedly announced that it is planning to create more than 30,000 new seasonal jobs throughout its operations during the upcoming few weeks as the company is preparing itself to meet the elevated demand from e-commerce clients in the festive season.
Ecom Express, which had 23,000 employees before the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns, has since then increased its workforce by 7,500 to cater to the growing online orders during as well as in the post lockdown period as a majority of the population shifter to e-commerce to get their medicines, groceries, and other commodities.
The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in the rise increasing number of customers moving towards e-commerce, which has driven the industry to reach new heights.
Chief Human Resource Officer and Senior Vice President of Ecom Express, Saurabh Deep Singla stated that the company’s e-commerce consumers have big plans for the upcoming festive season, and the firm wants to ensure that it is capable of fulfilling their needs. The company has already started hiring operations and would continue to the latest hiring drive till October 10, 2020. Ecom anticipates that it would hire over 30,000 seasonal employees for the upcoming festive season.
Singla further added that in 2019, the company had employed about 20,000 people right before the festive season. While these jobs are temporary, one-third of them become permanent as the company continues to observe increasing demand even in the post festive season.
As of the beginning of August, the company had a workforce of 30,500 employees. E-commerce firms observe immense orders and profits during the festive seasons and thus make significant investments prior to the period to increase their capability to handle the jump in orders.
Recently, e-commerce company, Flipkart, stated that it added over 50,000 grocery stores to support its supply chain and delivery abilities. Likewise, Amazon India also announced the addition of five new sort centers to strengthen its capabilities.
