GE Healthcare successfully inaugurates its 1st 5G Innovation Lab in India

GE Healthcare, a subsidiary of an American multinational conglomerate General Health, has recently announced that it is launching its 5G Innovation Lab in India, the first for the company worldwide.

With features like massive high data speeds, bandwidth, low latency, and highly reliable connectivity, 5G has the ability to transform patient care continuum and therapy, revolutionizing diagnosis and prognosis, said the company.

The 5G innovation lab has been intended to place GE Healthcare at the vanguard of these pioneer advances in patient care, including theoretically bringing advanced technology to suburban and rural regions, it said.

Located at the JFWTC (John F. Welch Technology Centre) Bengaluru, GE Healthcare’s biggest R&D center located outside of the USA, the 5G innovation lab serves as a testbed for developing products and solutions that are sustainable, shifting towards a new corner in innovation.

It also houses ultra-modern infrastructure, including a private 5G network for development and testing. The lab offers proficiency and a platform for a collaborative ecosystem for academia, the healthcare industry, and startups, accelerating evaluation and empowering validation and limitation of 5G-enabled 'Precision Healthcare' use cases.

As per recent reports, 5G in healthcare was projected at USD 215 million in 2021 and is estimated to reach USD 3,667 million by 2026.

The company says that 5G could act as a key trigger for transforming the experience of patients by allowing speedy collection and transmission of large data files and high-definition video, which can provide faster analytical insights and modernize clinical decision-making.

Jan Makela, CEO & President, Imaging at GE Healthcare, told that India is a key market for their firm globally and it is the right time to invest in 5G, which will open a myriad of new opportunities, driving the next wave of growth in the healthcare domain.
