GE Renewable Energy to provide 81 wind turbines to Polish wind farm
GE Renewable Energy, a division of General Electric, recently announced that it will be providing 81 onshore wind turbines to Potegowo Wind Project. The wind project is located in Slupsk County in Northern Poland with a capacity of 220 MW.
Once the project is commissioned, which is a first between Potegowo Mashav and GE Renewable Energy, the installed base in Poland will be increased from of 580 MW to 800 MW.
The wind farm is divided in four sub-projects: Gluszynko, Biecino, Karzcino and Wrzescie, and Malechowo. The 81 onshore wind turbines provided by GE will be distributed among the four with Biecino receiving 5 units which are already being installed, Gluszynko will receive 20 units, Karzcino and Wrzescie will receive 13 units and Malechowo will have 43 units.
GE will be manufacturing the turbines at its Salzbergen, Germany site. The company will also be providing a five-year Full Service Agreement that will offer expert recommendations, advanced field services and data-driven insights.
Peter Wells, CEO, Europe/SSA Onshore Wind, GE Renewable Energy, was quoted to say that the project underlines GE’s commitment to provide sustainable source to the Polish grid. He added that the country’s wind industry will continue to thrive as the auctions that are to come will provide opportunities for the National Energy and Climate Plan of Poland which is well on its way towards decarbonization.
Mashav Energia CEO, Tomer Eizenberg was reported to say that in partnership with GE Renewable Energy the company will be building one of the largest wind farms in Poland. Eizenberg added that the project marks a significant milestone in the company’s wind farm investment program after it had won the November 2018 Polish government tender that made it eligible for supplying wind generated energy of 220 MW to the Polish electricity network.
Remarkably, this is the first renewables investment in Poland in nearly 3 years and is being financed by European Bank of Reconstruction and Development. The project is being estimated to save 480,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year.
