Iberdrola seeks to build environmentally friendly offshore wind farms

Iberdrola, a Spanish multinational electric utility company, has recently stated that it plans to develop offshore wind farms that will respect nature entirely and enhance the diversity of life in the oceans.

To achieve this, the firm has rolled out a new challenge via its start-up programme, PERSEO.

Iberdrola, which already has 1,258 MW in operation and 5,500 MW secured or under construction, which will start operating soon given the investments of around 30 billion made worldwide, states that offshore wind is going to be the central pillar of its future growth.

The firm’s strategy prioritizes preserving the planet and promoting the well-being of people. With regards to the rising demand for energy globally, it plans to continuously work to build an energy model in accordance with nature and human beings.

For the uninitiated, offshore wind is a technology deployed for clean energy generation and is one of the critical forces driving Iberdrola’s future. Now it aims to conserve habitat and improve the biodiversity of marine life via offshore wind farms.

Given to this, the firm is launching a call to the start-ups in the market to submit high-quality, innovative proposals intended to test, monitor, and develop solutions that take nature into account and can be employed in an offshore wind farm ecosystem.

For the record, Iberdrola was one of the leading developers of onshore wind energy two decades ago and is now a forerunner in offshore wind energy and rolling out offshore wind energy as ecologically friendly as possible.

Furthermore, the firm has taken a significant step forward in offshore technology; its current portfolio includes projects in the UK (3,100 MW), the US (1,200 MW) and Japan (1,800 MW). It also holds a massive plan of investment for the future, encompassing many countries with significant growth plans.
