NV Energy issues RFP to expand portfolio of renewable energy projects
NV Energy, a public utility company, has recently issued an RFP (request for proposal) to expand its portfolio by adding new renewable energy projects.
The recent announcement happened in line with the approval from the PUCN (Public Utilities Commission of Nevada's) to build 1,190-MW of solar energy and 590-MW of battery storage capacities in Nevada in December 2019. In addition to this upcoming project, several other clean energy projects have been approved by the PUCN to serve NV energy customers by the end of 2021.
As per the statement made by the Chief Executive Officer & President of NV Energy, Doug Cannon, the company is seeking to further increase the use of renewable resources and has been actively working to lower the energy costs of the customers. It is anticipating to deliver direct benefits to customers from the new projects by delivering some of the lowest-cost renewable energy available globally.
The recent RFP strives to pursue biomass, wind, geothermal, solar, and biogas technology projects, which are compliant with the existing renewable energy portfolio standards of Nevada. Additionally, the company will consider proposals that include standalone energy storage systems and energy storage systems that are integrated with renewable energy resources. Following this, the projects will be evaluated on several factors such as the value to customers and economic benefits in Nevada.
Interested parties or potential bidders are expected to leverage the new opportunity by registering on NV Energy’s website and subsequently following the directives under the ‘Steps to Complete’ section. The bidders are required to submit the bids for the project by 6th January 2021. The projects of the successful bidders are also mandated to gain the PUCN approval. The project completion and renewable energy production for customers are expected to be completed by 31st December 2025.
