While the world has seen many developments on the vaccine side for COVID-19, the testing for coronavirus remains a high priority for many nations. Until a vaccine comes out, the best bet is to test and isolate the carriers by mass testing. However, this process of testing has somewhat been slow with many labs being not able to cope up with Covid-19 test results. This slow rate of testing and delay may allow the risk of further spread of the virus.
To better respond to the current situation, it is essential for laboratories to come with novel testing methods that can test thousands of people at a time. Recently, PerkinElmer Inc., the U.S-based Corporation focused in the business areas of diagnostics, has launched a series of explorer™ workstations for COVID-19 testing capable of running up to 10,000 tests per day.
Sources cite that these workstations, which are scalable as well as modular, allow labs to speed up the SARS-CoV-2 testing capacity to generate results quickly.
The workstations assist labs by automating the testing methodologies, accelerating SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR and ELISA testing alongside helping the labs to become more efficient, reducing the workforce, regulating isolated procedures, and offering a wide range of automation services as the per the relevant requirement of workload and staff.
Masoud Toloue, Ph.D., General Manager and Vice President, Diagnostics, PerkinElmer stated the importance of the testing process and how labs need everything they can to scale up their testing capabilities. These new testing capabilities help labs to be flexible, meet the testing demand, and to work efficiently through the coronavirus pandemic workstations, he added.
For the record, PerkinElmer has over 20 years of expertise in the design of detailed workflows focused on application, procedure, and staff criteria. Its wide spectrum of SARS-CoV-2 products covers high-performance RNA extraction, RT-PCR assays, automation, ELISA, and other laboratory solutions.
