Siemens Gamesa introduces 14 MW offshore wind turbine with 222m rotor

Non-exhaustible energy sources have evolved as one of the best alternative energy sources and have gained recognition and importance on a global scale. One of the leading renewable energy companies that have stood out in this regard is Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA.
Recently, the Spanish-based on-shore and offshore wind turbine provider is in headlines for its 14-megawatt offshore turbine model with a 222m rotor diameter. This model has a marginally bigger rotor diameter and can improve its capacity to 15 MW by using a ‘Power Boost’ function. 
Sources cite that this is the world’s largest wind turbine announced publicly, putting the company back in first place in the rankings for the biggest offshore turbines available in the market. Previously, GE introduced the Haliade- X platform, 12-megawatt turbine, and confirmed its first orders in the following year.
As per Morten Pilgaard Rasmussen, who is Head of offshore technology at Siemens Gamesa, the company anticipates confirming its first orders for the new turbine in the coming time, with offers already sent to global offshore wind developers.
According to sources, Siemens Gamesa anticipates deploying the prototype of this 14 MW model in Denmark by fall 2021. The announcement of the new turbine is a huge quantum leap for the company with a rotor diameter of 10 percent greater than the previous model. However, the technology platform will still be familiar to current customers. 
For the record, Siemens Gamesa is the biggest supplier of the offshore wind turbines in the world followed by MHI Vestas whose biggest available model is 10 megawatts. Till now, the company has installed more than 1,000 offshore wind turbines in all leading offshore wind markets globally including Netherland, UK, Germany, Taiwan, Belgium, and Denmark.
