Tata Power has recently announced that Tata Power Renewable Energy, its subsidiary, will develop a 120-MW solar project for the electrical service company, Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam.
Sources familiar with the matter have stated that the largest integrated power company in India, Tata Power, has revealed that its wholly owned subsidiary, TPREL (Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited), has obtained a Letter of Award on 12th June 2020 from GUVNL (Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd.) for the solar project development in Gujarat.
Under the PPA (power purchase agreement) that will last for 25 years, the company will supply energy to GUVNL from the scheduled date of the commercial operation. It has won this 120-MW capacity in a bid in February 2020, which was announced by the Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam under Phase VIII. The project must reportedly be commissioned within 18 months from the date of the power purchase agreement execution.
According to Praveer Sinha, Tata Power’s CEO & MD, the company has expressed excitement at having been awarded the 120-MW solar project. It also appreciated the government of Gujarat & the officials at Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam for the opportunity. The cumulative renewable energy capacity of the company, in addition to the recent project that consists of 120-MW capacity under the letter of intent (LOI), will be 3,457-MW. Out of this increase in the renewable capacity, 2,637-MW is still operational and 820-MW capacity is under implementation.
The new facility at Gujarat is anticipated to generate over 300 MUs of energy in a year. It will also have the capacity to offset nearly 300 million Kg of carbon dioxide.
Ashish Khanna, Tata Power’s President - Renewables, has also stated that the company is excited to win the new solar energy project. It is planning to continuously have a strong commitment towards engineering, project development, renewable energy, and execution capabilities.
